Game Freak's Little Town Hero is due for release on October 16, so there isn't too long to wait until you can get your hands on it, and now a new trailer has given us an in-depth look at the combat system for the game, which isn't too far away from Game Freak's other notable franchise - Pokémon.

In this system you use 'ideas', which let you attack, defend, or do special moves. You need to break the monster's ideas using yours, and you come up with 'Izzits' too. These need to be turned to 'Dazzits' to use them, and this requires Power. You only have a limited number of ideas though, and if it's broken by the monster's attack, you can still use it in the next turn.

Game Freak describes this as a level of strategy akin to a card game, and you'll need to use villagers as well, since they can help you by buffing your character, attacking monsters, and more.

Gimmicks are another feature to use in combat too, which you can find around the world. One example shown is a cannon that you can use to fire at your foe.

As you play you'll earn Eureka Points from fights, and you can spend these to upgrade ideas, providing different tactical options.

You can see all of this in action via the video below. Does this look like a fun way to play?

REVIEW. Written by Kieran Harris

"It's sad to see that Game Freak has stumbled when trying to branch out and deliver a new take on the JRPG genre."
