Riot Games has announced that it is changing its multi-city format for the 2022 League of Legends World Championship. Particularly, it is the semi-finals of the tournament that are changing, as the original host city of Toronto is being replaced by Atlanta.

This decision comes as there are difficulties securing visas to Canada for those attending, and therefore the event is moving from the Scotiabank Arena in the city, to the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

"We are committed to upholding our tradition of a multi-city Worlds tour despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, and look forward to hosting the 2022 Semifinals at the state-of-the-art State Farm Arena in Atlanta," said Naz Aletaha, global head of LoL Esports, Riot Games. "This news is no doubt disappointing to our fans and partners in Canada, and we want to sincerely thank Toronto, Scotiabank Arena, and our community for their understanding. We look forward to bringing a major LoL Esports event there in the future."

The rest of the city schedule remains the same, with Play-Ins set for Mexico City, Groups and Quarterfinals planned for New York City, and the Finals heading to San Francisco.
