The massive boom that esports have seen over the past few years have also led to an explosive increase in sports betting on esports results. And while betting remains illegal in markets like the US and Korea, European bookmakers have been quick to embrace esports betting.
And the same goes for esports fans, it seems. One bookmaker, Bwin, is predicting that they'll soon be taking more bets on League of Legends matches than they will on Champions League football.
The prediction does come with the caveat that esports betting will continue to grow along the same rate it did last year. And they offer no time line on when this may happen. For now betting on League of Legends has overtaken betting on the Champions League winner. Of course, the competition when it comes to betting on Champions League is a lot tougher for Bwin, as well, but if esports continues to grow in terms of gambling you should expect more and more betting firms to catch on.
