Konami confirms LA-based studio's closure

Californian arm of Kojima Productions shuts down.

Yesterday we reported on the rumours that Konami had shut down Kojima Production's studio based in Los Angeles, a relatively small dev team that was established in 2013 in order to work on the multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Metal Gear Online. In the past few hours Konami has confirmed the reports via the following statement:

<i>"Konami has made the decision to close its Los Angeles Studio, effective immediately, due to the product development resources being restructured into a more centralized unit. This facility contributed to the recent Metal Gear Solid games. Konami will continue its operations to support all Metal Gear Solid titles, including the recently launched Metal Gear Solid V: The Phanton Pain and Metal Gear Online. Metal Gear Online is still scheduled to release for PC Steam in January 2016".

With the closure of Los Angeles-based studio 35 jobs were lost, and the development of MGSO has already passed into the hands of Konami's studio based in Japan. Now the question remains as to what the company will do with the MGS franchise in the future.
