There's a brand new King of Fighters game arriving this summer, the first since 2010's King of Fighters XIII. Unsurprisingly named King of Fighters XIV, the upcoming PS4 fighter will be the first game in the series (besides the PS2 spinoff Maximum Impact) to feature 3D polygonal graphics instead of hand-drawn 2D art.
Though the art style is shifting to 3D, the gameplay firmly remains 2D, similar to the shift that the Street Fighter series made with Street Fighter IV.
Among details revealed by the trailer is a return of the series 3-on-3 fighting format, where players pick a team of three fighters to do battle sequentially. There's also a new story mode, and mention of a one-button combo system that essentially just asks you to mash the square button. Where not sure how we feel about that.
Finally, the trailer reveals the game's release date: it's coming August 26, 2016.
