Miiverse is Nintendo's social network which was launched on the Wii U in Japan back in 2012, when the console was launched in that region, but we should really be using the term 'was', as we now know that in November this year the service is going to end.

Nintendo has released an announcement (as reported by Kotaku) that Miiverse, along with Wii U Chat and Nintendo TVii, will end on November 8 at 15:00 Japanese time (07:00 BST).

In Japan this will have an impact on over 70 Wii U games, and over 20 Nintendo 3DS games. There's no word yet about other regions, but considering Wii U's poor performance as a console, it's a safe bet to assume that Miiverse is going down around the globe.

The Nintendo Switch, however, does not use Miiverse, so no worries if you only own that console. Are you sad to see Miiverse depart?
