Xbox has never really been the go-to option for Final Fantasy titles, natural given the franchise history and huge Japanese following. But this could be about to change and during X018 Square Enix and Microsoft revealed that the whole Final Fantasy XIII suite (that also includes Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII) will be added to the list of backwards compatible games for Xbox One - and also get 4K support with Xbox One X.

Turns out there's even better news as Jason Ronald, Director of Program Management at Xbox, revealed on Twitter:

"Not only is FINAL FANTASY XIII enhanced for Xbox One X, through close partnership with our friends at Square Enix, the back compat team was able to acquire and include all of the original cutscene assets at a much higher visual quality than previously available on Xbox 360."

Besides the XIII suite, Square Enix also announced during X018 that Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age and World of Final Fantasy Maxima is coming to Xbox One next year - so it seems like the Xbox gamers finally are going to get their Final Fantasy fix on fully.

The reason Final Fantasy VIII is missing is reportedly due to both licensing issues regarding one of the songs (Eyes on Me) and the original assets for the game not being preserved which makes things a lot harder (the PC version was really bad, as you might recall).

Getting the Final Fantasy XIII games rendered in 4K and higher quality cutscenes almost make these games free remasters for everyone who already owns the originals. So if you do there's every reason to download them on your Xbox One as they're available now.
