The HTC Vive officially launched today, at that means a bunch of new software coming out for the VR platform as well - and some of it is from rather unlikely sources.

Indeed, Swedish furniture giant Ikea has put out an app for the Vive, dubbed the IKEA VR Experience, that lets you explore different Ikea kitchen setups through virtual reality.

From the product description, it doesn't exactly sound like a feature rich app - the main options include changing the colour of cabinet doors and drawers, and seeing the kitchen either from adult or kid's height - but Ikea refers to it as a "pilot app".

The company foresees a future where customers could try out different furnishing layouts through VR before buying them. But of course nothing beats the experience of actually visiting IKEA on a Saturday afternoon, right?

The IKEA VR Experience is available on Steam for free.
