We caught up with executive producer Randy Greenback to learn more about the origins of Friday the 13th: The Game, its mechanics, and the psychology that comes into play in a game like this.

"As far as game mechanics go we boil it down to hide and seek, plus murder", says Greenback when asked to describe the game. "That's at its very core what the game is all about. You've got to try to escape while not being manhandled and killed by Jason. Jason Vorhees, probably the craziest slasher that has ever graced the screen."

The interview also covers the game's origins that were more of an homage to Friday the 13th (until the license was granted), as well as the various iterations of Jason that will feature in the game.

Asymmetric multiplayer experiences have not taken off the way many anticipated they would before the launch of Evolve (even if Dead by Daylight is a shining example that it can work), but Gun Media use their own approach where they're not too worried about keeping things balanced.

"Over the course of the match Jason is getting stronger, and he's getting more OP", explains Greenback. And that's fine, we're okay with that. We want Jason to be OP, cause that's the horror films... you want the optimal ending is only a couple of people live if that."

Friday the 13th: The Game remains slotted for an "early 2017" release, as stated in the interview, and it has now been given a ESRB rating (M for Mature should come as no surprise), but whether it makes it out before the end of April remains to be seen with no official date revealed as of this point in time.
