We caught up with Double Fine's Greg Rice in the Day of the Devs area of GDC to learn more about the headswapping shooter that is Headlander.

"The way we described it is, it's a '70s retro sci-fi shooter with headswapping," explains Rice. "So you're playing as the last human head in a world full of robots and any time your body explodes or if you'd like you can eject your head and land on another body and take control of another robot."

There's a strong puzzle element to proceedings as well, with the player having to blast various targets in order to progress through the environments.

The discussion also touched on the line-up of games at Day of the Devs, and the music and the movies that have inspired the setting (Logan's Run was mentioned).

Greg Rice confirmed that Headlander will launch at some point during 2016 on PC and PS4.

REVIEW. Written by Bengt Lemne

"It may not be the most polished and rewarding metroidvania we've ever come across, but it certainly makes up for it in other areas."
