H1Z1 is a battle royale title that's just launched Season 3 alongside its biggest update ever, but now Daybreak Games has revealed that the game has been rebranded to Z1 Battle Royale, which comes with even more updates to the experience.

"Today's patch is huge, not just because it contains tons of content, or that it's the start of the first new Season since early November, or even that the game now has a new name. It's also huge because it represents the first big delivery on the promise that the new NantG team made when it took over development last September: Bring back the game that so many of you fell in love with in the classic "King of the Kill" era around Preseason 3 at the end of 2016 and in early 2017," general manager Anthony Castoro said.

There are a ton of changes listed in the full patch notes above, but of course there's a new look as part of this. Animations are also being remade across the board, and a ton of weapons have been tweaked too, not to mention various world and environment reworks and retuning of vehicles.

Fragments are also being introduced, being dropped in dead players' bags with blue granting 100 in-game credits, while red give you a Conquest Crate. Missions will also be available as you play to earn credits, fragments, or crates.

Last but not least there's also Ranked Pro mode alongside Season 3, using "a scoring model which emphasizes aggressive play with an elimination focused scoring model. No longer is placement the primary form of scoring, but rather eliminations (kills)." This is similar to how esports competitions work for battle royale games, and there are modifiers like 2x for first place, 1.5x for second to tenth, 1.25x for 11th to 50th, and 1x for lower than that.

For more on placement rewards, The Showdown, crates, bug fixes, and more, be sure to check out the patch notes in full here.

Daybreak Games has had troubles in recent months, laying off 30% of its staff at the end of last year after moving the game to a free-to-play model earlier in 2018, so they'll be hoping Season 3 and the rebrand can pull players in.
