Caged Element Inc.'s Grip is a racing game that's emerging from early access this year for a full launch, and while we were at PAX East we spoke with game director Chris Mallinson about the game, and the quick elevator pitch for those who may not have heard about its philosophy and what it offers.

"It's kind of like Mario Kart on steroids," he said. "But it's also a spiritual successor to an older game called Rollcage - really crazy, the cars flip, they drive on both sides. There's a lot of combat, a lot of speed; it's just very chaotic and intense, but it's controlled chaos. And when it goes well, it goes really well, and when it goes bad you still want to get back into it and race again because it's exciting regardless of what position you're in."

Between the end of summer and Christmas is the rough time period Mallinson gave to us for the full release, but will you be getting into the driver's seat?

REVIEW. Written by Graham Bellars

"In a year that has given us a huge variety of racing games, this nostalgic look back at late '90s classic Rollcage certainly scratches an itch."
