French RPG studio Spiders have been very productive in recent years, creating role-playing games with both fantasy setting (Bound by Flame) and sci-fi setting (Mars: War Logs, The Technomancer). Next up, however, is something different. Their next game, as revealed at publisher Focus Home Interactive's recent event, is called Greedfall, and it is inspired by the 17th century European Baroque art.
That's not to say the setting is entirely realistic, as there will supernatural elements on a remote and mysterious island.
Here's a short excerpt of what to expect:
"Explore a fresh new world as you set foot - alongside many other settlers, mercenaries and treasure hunters - on a remote island seeping with magic, rumored to be filled with riches and lost secrets. A grand journey filled with mystery follows, as you find yourself in the middle of ever-increasing tensions between the invading settlers and the locals, protected by supernatural beings, manifestation of the island's earthly magic."
While few details have been unearthed thus far, Greedfall will feature the same sort of open approach to quest resolution and character interactions as previous Spiders' developed games. And the game will offer alternative solutions to combat throughout.
Greedfall is being developed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and there is currently no release date, but it is reasonable to assume we'll see it next year at the earliest.
