Gearbox to show card-based shooter Project 1v1 during E3

It's not Borderlands 3, and it might be a behind-closed-doors affair.

Despite rumours of a possible reveal for Borderlands 3 during E3 in Los Angeles in the coming days, a possibility that was heavily suggested by the massive leak by Walmart Canada last month, it seems as though Gearbox has something else to show in LA next week.

According to a report over on VG247, Gearbox will host a behind-closed-doors presentation dedicated to the mysterious game codenamed Project 1v1.

Gearbox has shared a few details about the title over on the official website. The game has been in closed testing since last year, and it's offering a fusion of shooter gameplay with collectible card game mechanics. Here's what the studio had to say:

Project 1v1 is the code name for Gearbox's top-secret, in-development, competitive first-person shooter that combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game.

Project 1v1 will be holding a short Closed Technical Test this summer. We are looking for a limited number of players to test the online infrastructure and learn what players like you think about the game in order to inform and influence future development. The test will be held on North American servers, so international players may experience decreased performance.

The question is, then, will Gearbox be showing off Project 1v1 alone or will it appear alongside a certain highly-anticipated RPG-shooter threequel? Guess we'll find out next week.
