Gameloft shuts down Madrid office
Downsizing continues at the once-dominant mobile publisher.
There is bad news coming out of Gameloft Madrid. Vivendi has announced to the staff that is terminating all contracts and shutting down the studio as soon as terms are agreed upon with employees. About 40 people were still working at the office after massive layoffs in late 2017 and a few other employees leaving the company on their own accord shortly thereafter. Just one year ago, there were about 100 people working in Madrid for the French company.
Madrid follows the same path than Gameloft New Orleans, closed down a few weeks ago. There were also about 40 employees in the American office. At that time, Gamasutra said that almost 900 employees had lost their jobs at the mobile games company, from New Zealand to Valencia, New York, and Tokyo. But the company remains in places like Barcelona and Singapore and is still a major player on the mobile scene.
