Gal Gadot on being released from her Wonder Woman role: "They told me the opposite"

When the DC Extended Universe collapsed, many of the characters and the actors were quite quickly pushed out of the doors of DC Studios, with some rather popular casting choices thrown in the bin in favour of a completely reborn universe in the DC Universe. One such casualty of this rebirth was Gal Gadot, who will not be continuing as Diana Prince, AKA Wonder Woman, despite initially being told she would.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gadot mentions when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC Studios, she was directly informed they were looking to make a third Wonder Woman movie with her at the helm.

"No, they told me the opposite. They were like 'we're going to develop it with you, do the third, la la la'. But I saw the way everybody else were handled and I... The Henry [Cavill] situation was not handled elegantly to say the least, the same with Patty [Jenkins]. I feel like, you know, we're all adults and it's all good, and it's not even about them. They are there and are there to do what they believe in and it's all good."

Gadot went on to note she is still happy she had the chance to be Wonder Woman for a period, explaining "it was never mine. I was always just a vessel." She also touched on how she hopes whoever steps up to take over the role will "really come pure to this journey.

There are rumours Wonder Woman will make her DC Universe debut in 2027's Superman sequel, with Adria Arjona potentially taking over the character, but this has yet to be confirmed by any of the parties involved.
