The Advanced Edition of FTL: Faster Than Light is a free update that adds loads of new content to the game including new weapons, drones, augments, systems, and enemies. The Advanced Version will feature writing from Tom Jubert and "special guest writer" Chris Avellone (who he finds the time between Wasteland 2 and Project Eternity we dare not guess).

There is a Mind Control System that temporarilly turns enemies into allies. A hacking system that allows you to mess with the systems of the enemy. And a bunch of other stuff.

Everything that has been added to the Advanced Edition will also be present in the upcoming iPad edition of the award winning game.

"We're also very excited to announce that FTL is coming to the iPad! We've redesigned the FTL interface to be optimal for touch devices. It plays beautifully on both the full size iPads (2nd generation or later) and the iPad minis. And of course it will include all of the new additions of the FTL: Advanced Edition expansion."

For now the team is focusing on iPad support, but once that is done they hope to move on to support Android tablets and Surface. However, don't expect to be playing FTL on your phone anytime soon.
