Fortnite's World Cup this past weekend turned heads for a number of reasons. After all, it's the biggest game in the world with a vibrant esports community anyway, and with a lot of money at stake too, it seems this has translated into a very watchable event.

Data from GitHyp reveals that, after the Celebrity Pro-Am last summer broke Twitch's all-time peak record with 1.5 million concurrent viewers, this year's Duos finale peaked with one million concurrent viewers, seeing Nyhrox and Aqua take home $3 million USD when they won.

Millions tuned in throughout the weekend too, whether that was to watch the Solos in which Kyle 'Bugha' Giersdorf claimed victory, or RL Grime and Airwaks win $1 million for charity in the Pro-Am. This all added up to big numbers, and it turns out the World Cup was actually the most-watched esports event in Twitch history.
