Fnatic is probably the best team in Counter-Strike right now, and they showed that once again at last night's semifinals in IEM Katowice. They beat the Danish team Astralis, who's been on a streak of great games otherwise, in a 2-1 showing.
Other than the second map, Cache, where Astralis only gave away two rounds in the second half, Fnatic gave their opponents a regular smackdown. They took no prisoners on the first and third map, beating Astralis with 16-6 and 16-7 scorelines.
In the other semifinal, Luminosity Gaming played two incredibly even games against Na'Vi, defeating them with 22-19 and 16-12 scores. FalleN somehow managed to average more than 30 frags per map across the two games, despite also being Luminosity's play caller. It's clear that the Brazillians are currently playing at the highest level of their career so far, which should make for a very entertaining final.
Earlier in the day, Na'Vi put an end to Tempo Storm's exciting run through the tournament in a closely fought 2-1 game. It's been a massivly impressive European debut for the Brazillian team, who only recently relocated to the US. With such an impressive run through their first premier tournament, they're likely to make a big impact this year.
Meanwhile, Fnatic steamrolled Virtus.Pro in their quarterfinals. Pasha and Snax made valiant efforts, but it's clear that very little is currently working for the Polish team, who looked muted and defeated as Fnatic crushed them.
The finals between Luminosity Gaming and Fnatic will be played tonight at 17:00 GMT/18:00 CET, provided the ESL can manage to stick to their schedule (last night's games slipped by several hours). You can watch them on the official Twitch stream.
