Nintendo's first two forays into mobile gaming, Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes, are now out and ready for you to play, and recently Nintendo has offered some intriguing insight into not only the amount of downloads for each game, but also how profitable they are for the company.
Wall Street Journal's technology reporter in Tokyo, Takashi Mochizuki, recently had a chat with Nintendo, and shared the following via Twitter: "Nintendo chief: # of Fire Emblem downloads less than 1/10 of Mario, but revenue is bigger than Mario."
Super Mario Run is free, but you have to pay if you want to experience more than the first three levels and the boss. Fire Emblem: Heroes, however, has microtransactions. It seems, then, that despite Super Mario Run nearing 150 million downloads, microtransactions are simply superior in terms of sheer revenue.
