After months of rumours and leaks we finally got the official reveal of Destiny's next expansion, Rise of Iron.

As we reported yesterday, Rise of Iron will indeed only be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One on September 20 for $30 (as The Taken King cost $40 / £40 / €40 our guess is that RoI will cost the same in Europe as it does in the States).

Starting in August, Guardians on PS3/Xbox 360 and PS4/Xbox One will "progress separately on two parallel paths". This means that you'll have to transfer your characters and inventory by then if you want to use them on the current-gen consoles.

A place called Felwinter Peak is a mountain retreat where the Iron Lords once watched over Old Russia. The area has up till now been quarantined for centuries due to the Iron Lords sacrificing themselves to stop a dark technology called SIVA. Splicers have broken through these walls and salvaged this dark power. Now they're using it to augmented themselves into a new faction called Devil Splicers.

Of course this means that you'll have to stop The Fallen before it's too late. How? By becoming an Iron Lord yourself. You join forces with Lord Saladin and travel to the new Plaguelands zone. The snowy area is filled with Fallen fortresses and new structures using SIVA technology.

It'll be very interesting to learn more about the Iron Lords, and to tease our thirst for knowledge even further Bungie showed off a mausoleum in the the social space in Felwinter Peak, which houses statues that depict the original Iron Lords.

We thought that Lord Saladin was wielding a giant hammer when we first saw the leaked promotional poster, but it's actually a double-headed battle axe. Many of you hoped this was a new weapon, but it's actually a relic. They didn't say much else about it, but we're guessing it'll function much like the Scorch Cannon.

They didn't say much about the new Raid, but they did give us a small clip of a massive machine-like creature chasing some Guardians.

Bungie has also promised, as expected with Lord Saladin on the cover, that PvP is getting a lot of new content as well. They mentioned specifically a new game mode, new maps, and features.

Even with the announcement of a significant light level increase and new gear, a lot of you might be most excited to hear that you'll get to forge your very own Gjallarhorn. By pre-ordering you'll even get access to a black and silver Iron Gjallarhorn variant.

PlayStation users will once again get access to a collection of timed-exclusive content for the expansion, but they didn't want to share detailed information at this moment. Expect to get further details during Sony's E3 press conference next week.
