Team SoloMid are one of the teams competing in the North American League of Legends Championship Series (otherwise called the NA LCS), and now the organisation has announced that Dr Pepper has become their official sponsor in what's being called a" key partnership," one that marks the soft drinks' first major esports team sponsorship.
"We are thrilled to be partnering within esports in a way that allows Dr Pepper to engage across multiple platforms with the gaming community. From playing games alone, with friends, watching streams or championship spectating - Dr Pepper wants to share in the fun of gaming," said Blaise D'Sylva, VP Media & Entertainment at Dr Pepper.
"I remember Dr Pepper's part in esports while I competed in MLG back in Seasons 1 & 2 - it was really cool to see Dr Pepper given away to fans everywhere," Team SoloMid founder Andy 'Reginald' Dinh added. "It's super exciting to have someone that was there at the start of esports come back to the scene through sponsoring TSM. It's a big honor for us to be able to represent such a large company and I'm really looking forward towards growing both our brands together."
Dr Pepper is no doubt a household name, so this partnership is significant for both sides, but do you think we'll see more big brands partner with esports organisations as sponsors?
