Last month ESL and Bluehole revealed the Gamescom PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Invitational, an esports tournament for one of the biggest games around right now, and while we were at Gamescom ourselves we caught up with Brendan 'PlayerUnknown' Greene himself to talk about the tournament and the motive behind bringing it to the convention.

"We just saw Gamescom as a great opportunity to run one of our first LAN events," he explained. "It's a big enough conference that it can accommodate us quite well and working with a partner like ESL, this is their home turf, so we just saw it as a win-win, and both Sammie, who's leading the event coordination, and ESL have done an amazing job by getting a great looking arena and some great production ready for the event."

We also commented on the fact that it's pretty difficult to host a LAN in a game with so many players, to which Greene responded: "Yeah, this is why we're doing these events now. We're not rushing into esports - we want to find the best format for a battle royale-type esport, so working with guys like ESL and other companies to really try to find the best format, and the best way to do this on a very large scale, which is going to be tough but, you know, we're committed to finding the best way possible."

What format could they pursue in the future?
