Esports World Cup 2026: M. Zubair shocks the world with Tekken 8 victory

The Esports World Cup continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. Over the weekend, the Tekken 8 event came to a close at the Parisian festival, and it ended up being a truly remarkable tournament as a surprising victor ultimately came out on top and claimed the trophy for their own.

After surviving the Last Chance Qualifier and securing one of the few final main event spots, the Pakistani Khawaja "M. Zubair" Muhammad Zubair has defied the odds and the competition and risen to the cream of the crop.

The Dragunov and Paul player proved to be far better equipped than many would have given him credit for, defeating Raef, Arslan Ash, and LowHigh finally in the Grand Final, all to not just claim the trophy for his own, but to also claim $250,000 in prize money, 1,000 Club Championship Points for All Gamers, and a ticket to the Tekken World Tour Finals 2026 when they happen in Singapore in January 2027.

For reference, this tournament is only the third time M. Zubair has played in a Tier 1 Tekken 8 tournament, with this prize money being the most he has ever earned in an event by a wide, wide margin.
