DotEmu on why they "really wanted" to develop Windjammers 2

DotEmu is all about retro gaming, which is why they're bringing us Windjammers 2 next year, based on the old classic from back in the day, and at Gamescom we spoke with Cyrille Imbert from DotEmu to hear what they're about.

"Basically at DotEmu for 10 years we've been basically specialising in retro gaming," he told us. "So we have been digging out some awesome licenses from the past and putting them back on modern platforms in many different kinds of ways, either a direct adaptation or a remake or sequel. That's the DotEmu part, it will always stay the same, to find old school licenses, old school games, and bring them back in many different kinds of ways."

We then asked more specifically about Windjammers 2, which turns out to be a passion project for the developer.

"Windjammers 1, we did it because we love the game and we played it at the office a lot way before when we were working with SNK or Square and stuff like that, we were playing it then, and we were like 'come on let's do it', and SNK didn't have the license, so we found it ourselves and we came to them again and said 'hey, this game is awesome, please let us do something with it'."

"And we already had in mind, we could do a second one, and this time we had the vision of, we worked with awesome studios for remakes and sequels like Pastagames for Pang Adventures, a sequel for the famous arcade series, Wonder Boy for the remake was Lizardcube, very talented, but because our team is so passionate I really wanted to have a project in-house as well, so Windjammers 2, because we worked so much on it, we know everything about it, we were in very, very good relations with the original creators, that we said 'okay we can do it'."

"Of course everything that we do on that title is always validated, or we try to at least, we'll see how it goes, but we try to validate by the best Windjammers player in the world that we know really well and come often to our office."
