Don't expect a remaster of Halo: Reach anytime soon

Back compatibility likely the only way Bungie's last Halo will make it Xbox One.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection gathered Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4 in one tidy bundle, and, after a disastrous online launch, the Halo: ODST remaster was offered by way of compensation. That leaves us with Halo: Reach (and, if you want to be picky, Halo Wars), and fans have been yearning for a remastered version of the game.

That however, is not going to happen anytime soon according to Xbox chief Phil Spencer, who spoke about the matter on IGN's Podcast Unlocked. When asked whether the newly announced backwards compatibility for Xbox One would keep the company from making a fully fledged remaster of Halo: Reach, he said:

"It doesn't keep us from doing a remaster or something, but clearly letting people play Halo: Reach and any of the first-party 360 games that they want to play is part of what backward-compatibility is about. We don't have a plan right now for a remake of Halo: Reach. I suspect it'll be a backward-compatibility game before we ever even think about doing a remake."

So there you go, don't expect Bungie's last Halo game to get an update anytime soon. Still, as long as we can play it on our Xbox One at some point, be that via a remaster or back compatibility, we don't mind that much.

"The time has come for Bungie's farewell to the Halo series, and they bid farewell with the biggest and most epic chapter in the series to date."
