Visually impressive fighting game Dissidia Final Fantasy NT launched three weeks ago, but it seems as though it's not performing very well from a sales perspective, as made public by Square Enix on their 2018 FY Q3 outline report.

Yosuke Matsuda, president and representative director of the company, addressed the title's sales during the usual Q&A session with shareholders. When asked whether Dissidia was expected to break even despite its below-target sales, this is how the Japanese exec explained the situation and the publisher's plans:

Initial sales have not reached the level we had first expected, but since this is a game geared toward multiplayer gaming experience, post-launch initiatives are key. We expect that repeat sales will grow by our hosting events and other initiatives going forward.

It's worth noting that the report is dated February 6, and thus it only takes a few days of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT sales in Western markets into consideration, as it released January 20 overseas. However, the game released on January 11 in Japan, which is, of course, an important indicator of any Square Enix title's performance.

REVIEW. Written by Ayub Dizaei

"It feels like a lot is missing, and we think there should be a lot more characters available from the start."
