In a statement we've received from Disney's chairman of consumer products and interactive media, Jimmy Pitaro, today we were told that Disney has changed their approach to console gaming and will now be transitioning "exclusively to a licensing model."
As part of this change they've decided to close down Avalanche Software, which means the end of the Disney Infinity series, making the third entry in the franchise the last release.
In a blog post by John Blackburn, Senior Vice President of Disney Interactive, posted shortly after the statement, we were told that the studio will finish their work on the "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and "Finding Dory" expansions and figures, then closing down in June.
Our best wishes go out to the over 300 people at Avalanche Software, and we hope they all find new employment very soon.
