We sat down for a chat with Dino Dini, creator of Kick Off and Player Manager, to talk about the return of Kick Off and what sets it apart from today's football games.
"It's the fact that indie is back," responds Dini when asked what prompted his return with Kick Off Revival. "I've always been an indie game developer. When I did the original Kick Off and Kick Off 2, they were very successful at the time, maybe people don't realise that it was actually a very much independent job. I did all the programming, all the design. There was an artist that was provided by the publisher so I had some assistance, but basically it was like the question of what my job title is... Back then it was, making a game was like being the author of the book. Just like you get a book published and it's got your name on it, that's kind of what it was."
Dino Dini has a quite aggressive timeline in mind for Kick Off Revival that's being targeted for release on PS4 and PS Vita during the second quarter. But he is not content with just bringing Kick Off back.
"If we're looking down the line, I've said many times I'd like to do a sequel to Player Manager," says Dini when asked about DLC and expansions and the future. "So that's definitely a target I want to head for. And that would combine the management game with Kick Off Revival or you could call that Player Manager Revival."
