The final qualifier tournament for next month's DreamHack Masters Malmö was was held this past weekend, with a Danish and a Swedish team prevailing.
Ancient, the new team led by former Fnatic-star Pronax, defeated Copenhagen Wolves in a 2-0 decider match, after having taken out FlipSid3 and ENCE Esports earlier in the tournament.
Ancient won the Pantamera 2.0 tournament earlier this year, but DreamHack Masters Malmö marks their first appearance at a premier event.
The pressure to qualify was on for Dignitas, as this was their last shot at qualifying for any of the three $250,000+ tournaments held in March-April. After a disappointing performance at the previous European qualifier, Dignitas appeared to be back on track. Though the Danes got crushed in the first map of their deciding match against AGG, the team powered through and won the remaining two maps convincingly.
Though Ancients and Dignitas were the victors, Copenhagen Wolves deserve a special mention for the upset they pulled in the round of 8, defeating G2 Esports 2-1 in a very close game. Though they didn't make it to DreamHack, it's an impressive performance nonetheless.
