Islands of Nyne: Battle Royale

Define Human halts Islands of Nyne's development

Despite price drops and updates, it was no longer financially viable, although it will remain free-to-play and servers will stay live.

The battle royale genre has one less survivor, as Define Human Studios has announced that the studio is winding down live development of Islands of Nyne due to financial problems.

Their recent efforts of updating the game and dropping the price couldn't help them to save the project, but the studio says that the game will still be available as a free-to-play title with the servers running for the foreseeable future at least. Players who bought the game or in-game items before November 29 though can request refunds, regardless of time spent in the game.

"We will be releasing one more update which will include a credits screen in the main menu thanking all those who contributed to the creation of Islands of Nyne in addition to those who backed the project during our various crowdfunding campaigns," the developer says on their Steam page.

"We are also exploring server hosting solutions which would allow players to host custom matches without our direct involvement. We would like Islands of Nyne to always be playable regardless of the lack of updates, so please bear with us while we fully explore our options on how to best achieve this."

It's a sad moment, as we've tried the game and thought it has potential (see our preview here), but if you're a player and want to see the FAQs, be sure to head this way.

Have you given the game a go?
