Developers and publishers used to save all of their announcements for E3 back in the day, but the last few weeks have clearly shown that things have changed. Now it's Team Ninja's turn to avoid the overload of announcements that will start tomorrow and continue through next week, and they've used the relative quiet before the storm to reveal Dead or Alive 6.

The studio has teamed up with IGNfor the announcement, but aren't willing to share much in terms of specifics just yet. We're told that Dead or Alive 6 will run on a new engine. This will let them take the already realistic visuals to another level. There's a big focus on dynamic facial expressions this time, as characters will make different expressions when moving and taking damage. Top this with the fact that fighters will become covered in sweat and realistic wounds, and it's clear that Team Ninja definitely aims to heighten the visual aspect.

While the visuals are getting a big upgrade, the core gameplay is said to stay true to what fans expect. One of the few improvements mentioned today is making the game more accessible to beginners by introducing new combo and special attack systems called Fatal Rush and Break Gauge. These are powerful attacks executed with simplified commands. Seasoned players shouldn't fret though, as good timing and regular commands are still the best option if you're looking to deal some real damage.

We're also told that Hayate, Hayabusa, Helena, Jann Lee, Kasumi, and Zack will return, but that's pretty much everything they're willing to reveal today. The real unveiling will take place on June 11 so expect to learn more about other characters and features there. You can watch the first trailer and screenshots below while you wait for that.
