Back in 2013 and 2014, hacker groups like LizardSquad and DerpTrolling were behind a series of denial of service attacks that affected a number of high profile games and platforms. Now, one of the individuals responsible for those attacks has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Austin Thompson, 23, admitted his guilt last year, and this week he was sentenced in California, where the judge handed him a two-year stint in prison for his part in the attack on Daybreak Games (the studio was called Sony Online Entertainment at the time).

During the same period, Thompson's group, DerpTrolling, was allegedly responsible for similar attacks on Battle.net, League, and Dota 2. Thompson, who hails from Utah, has also been ordered to pay $95,000 in restitution to Daybreak.

"Denial-of-service attacks cost businesses and individuals millions of dollars annually," U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer said. "We are committed to prosecuting hackers who intentionally disrupt internet access."
