An official news post on the website for The Elder Scrolls Online has revealed that Crown Crates are now available on the game's Crown Store, giving players the opportunity to get exclusive mounts, pets, and more.

The first season of Crown Crates is starting today, and each one you purchase contains a random selection of consumables and collectibles, with four items in each crate and the chance to get a fifth, all of it being valued higher than a crate. Buying a crate also gives you the chance to win cosmetic items, mounts, or pets, including new items and those you may have missed from limited time offers in the past.

Crown Gems are awarded when you already own a personality, pet, mount, or costume in the crate, and you can convert any items into Crown Gems even if you don't already have it, including potions, poisons, and more. Crown Gems are then used to purchase collectible items from the current Crown Crate season.

Each crate is linked to a certain "season" which means it will contain uniquely themed items, and these "seasons" will be cycled quarterly. This season's theme is Storm Atronach, and you can get these themed items, pictured below.

The crates can be purchased for 400 crowns each, and bundles can also be purchases, with four for the reduced price of 1,500 crowns, or you could get 15 for 5,000. Is this a good addition to the game?
