The ESWC is currently hosting a major Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 LAN tournament in Paris, the second of its kind on European soil - but the tournament got off to a rocky start.
In the opening main stage game of Millenium vs Giants Gaming, it quickly became apparent that both teams were struggling with connection issues on their controllers. Since Call of Duty is played on PS4 in esports tournaments, and the PS4 controllers use Bluetooth, they're susceptible to interference from other Bluetooth devices like neighbouring controllers, cell phones, headsets and more.
Following the first map of the series, the rest of the games were delayed for almost two hours as organizers and team captains met to discuss the issue. They found a solution by closing down the front rows of the hall, pushing the crowd out of Bluetooth range of the players. That made conditions workable for the players, and the tournament could continue - though the schedule had gone out the window at that point.
Millenium took down Giants Gaming 3-1 in a series of close maps, before facing co-favourites Optic Gaming in the second game of their group. They won that series 3-1 as well, placing them in the quarter finals to be played later today.
OpTic, meanwhile, will face the winner of Giants Gaming vs Supremacy, a game that's being played at this very moment.
Team Infused, Rise Nation, and FaZe Clan have all clinched quarterfinal spots, while the remaining quarterfinalists will be decided during today's play. Semis and grand finals happen tomorrow. There's a total of $50,000 on the line at ESWC, along with qualifier points for the World Championship this fall.
