Those who've pre-ordered Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be able to sample the new Heist mode coming to the game, as it's part of the beta weekend that starts at 6pm tonight (August 10) and runs through until Monday at the same (you don't have to pre-order on PC, the open beta starts there tomorrow - again, at 6pm).

Heist is a new mode similar to the one found in Battlefield: Hardline in the sense that players will have to escort a payload to an extraction point. Over the course of a game, players can be taken out, although anyone knocked unconscious can be brought back into the game by teammates in a move inspired by the Battle Royale-infused Blackout mode also coming to Black Ops 4 (although that mode is definitely not featured in this beta, that's happening next month).

Another interesting twist will see players upgrading their weapons over the course of a match, working their way through the arsenal as they progress, resupplying ammo and resources at regular intervals during the match.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 caused a bit of controversy when it was announced, as Treyarch decided to skip the single-player portion of the game this time around. However, it sounds like the studio is adding plenty of variety to the various multiplayer modes, whether that be news modes like Heist, the last-player-standing Blackout mode, or the Zombies portion of the game that'll take players to a variety of locations.

Will that lot be enough to appease fans? We'll find out when the game lands on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 12.
