Capcom has "highest levels of profitability in company history"
Monster Hunter: World has been a huge help.
Capcom is one of the most recognisable names in gaming, and now their latest report for the fiscal year 2018 has revealed that the Japanese company saw "highest levels of profitability in company history", which is boosted in no small part by the release of the successful Monster Hunter: World.
Year-on-year net sales were up 8.4% to 94,515 million yen, with increasing operating and ordinary income also up 17.5% and 21.2% respectively, alongside "net income attributable to owners of the parent" rising to 10,937 million yen (up 23.2% YoY). That's not all though, as Capcom expect to keep the good trend the next fiscal year and forecast net sales of 96,000 million yen, with net income of 12,000 million yen.
"Monster Hunter: World was a massive, record-setting success, becoming the best-selling title in company history, while Nintendo Switch titles such as Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) Nintendo Switch Ver. and Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers enjoyed hit status as well," the company writes.
Capcom sold 7.9 million units of Monster Hunter: World in just two months, with the PC version coming later this year. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter XX sits at 1.8 million units, despite never being released outside of Japan. Let's not forget about Resident Evil 7 either, which contributed to the trend with 300,000 copies sold in this quarter, while Street Fighter V and the current gen versions of Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 hitting 100,000 units each. Finally, without numbers, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers for Nintendo Switch "became a smash hit" too.
Not everything is doing well though, as Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite sales were described as "soft", and the Amusement Equipments business is facing trouble after some changes.
Did you expect such a result from Capcom?
