Activision has finally dished out the details on how and when the Call of Duty League will return in 2022. Set to begin on January 21 with the 2022 Kickoff Classic, this event will last a weekend and will feature all 12 teams competing in front of a live audience at the Esports Stadium Arlington in Texas.

Following this and shortly afterward, the 2022 season will officially start on February 4, with these matches instead being played online. It's probably a fair assumption that after the season starts, there will be regular weekly intervals of matches, but as for a firm confirmation on that, all Activision had to say was that it would be releasing "concrete dates" soon.

As for the actual regular season, this will consist of four Majors, each of which will span four weeks of matches, with the first three being qualifiers and the final one being the Major, like it was in the 2021 season. All of these matches will be played with a hybrid LAN/online model and will use the game modes of Hardpoint, Search and Destroy, and Control.

It was also noted that the first Major of the season will be hosted by OpTic Texas, with the rest set to be revealed at a later date.

As for the other changes that have been made, the 2022 season will include a Pro-Am mid-season event, and the postseason will again feature eight teams but will not reward the top two seeded teams with first round by-games or put the bottom two teams immediately in the Losers Bracket - each team will start on even grounds in the Winners Bracket.

Sledgehammer Games' latest instalment into the long-running shooter series offers up some great improvements, but still feels a bit safe at its core.
