CA reveals A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia

Earlier this week Sega and The Creative Assembly unveiled A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, a new spin-off entry into the studio's long-running historical series.

Unlike the studio's next big era-spanning release, the Saga series is going to focus more keenly on pivotal moments in history, in this case, the battle for England between Viking invaders and the British kingdoms they came up against.

Set in 878AD, Thrones of Britannia will see the rise of Alfred the Great, who famously came back from the brink to unify the various kingdoms that would come to identify themselves as the English.

Expect the usual mix of tactical campaign gameplay and real-time battles when the game lands in 2018. There's a trailer below that should get you in the mood, even if it doesn't really show you much of what the game will offer in terms of gameplay innovations.
