Gamereactor saw a lot of titles at Gamescom this year, one of which was the WW2 tactical RPG Broken Lines, and we actually caught up with creative director Hans Skovfoged at the show, who explained what the game is while dressed in the appropriate headwear for the occasion.
"Well we love Frozen Synapse, and we love Xcom, and we love Banner Saga, so we thought 'we've got to make a game which kind of combine these three different games into one'; a great, story-driven, tactical game where you have all the time to plan your game and your turn, but then you see the action play out in real-time," he explained. "And that's Broken Lines."
"We [also] love Company of Heroes, but I'm too slow to play it! I mean, I need a game where I have time to micro everything, but I don't want to be cheated for explosions and things going on and bullets flying around, so we made this gameplay where you plan, and when you execute you and the enemy move, so everything happens at once and it's very hectic."
You can see what the gameplay is like in the interview and the trailer below, which is actually from Gamescom this year, showing what it's like on the battlefield. For more on the game you can also check out the official site.
Does this sound like a good fusion of ideas?
