Day two of IEM Katowice was filled with action, with previous giants faltering and a surprise team making an international breakthrough.
The Danes from Astralis provided further evidence that they have shaken off whatever bothered them during the end of their TSM tenure, as they went undefeated through the group. They gave their usual nemesies from EnVyUs a good beating in the first game of the day, and from there Astralis never looked back. The first-place decider against Tempo Storm was the only other game of the day where Astralis felt the pressure.

Tempo Storm turned out to be the break-out team of the group. Katowice is their first tournament on European soil, yet they destroyed both Virtus.Pro and EnVyUs. The former game was 14-1 in favor of Tempo at half-time, an effort that made it look like the Polish team was facing an early exit. The Brazilians' beating of EnVy was just as much a show of power. And in the games that Tempo Storm did lose, against FaZe and Astralis, they put up quite a fight.

Meanwhile, Virtus.Pro struggled throughout the day, and at one point looked like they might not make it through the group. They pulled a close win over EnVyUs, another formerly great team that seems to be on the ropes, and had an incredibly close game against FaZe, with some of their round wins coming from very unusual and gimmicky plays (Snax did one of the most sneaky defuses in the history of the game). Not the best of days for the home team, who turned out to be the least shaky of the bottom four teams.

And then there's EnVyUs, who looked like a team where nothing really works. As they were dismantled by Tempo Storm, they looked nothing like the team that won the last major. EnVy was the only team that lost to the group whipping boy, E-Frag, in a game that went to double overtime. If you think it's time to dismiss EnVy outright, you're not alone.

As Astralis wins the round, they move on to the semifinals. Tempo Storm will play Na'Vi in the first quarter-final, while Virtus.Pro faces Fnatic. Both quarters and semis are played tomorrow, with the first game starting at 12.30 CET/11.30 GMT. Watch them on the official Twitch stream.
