Last night Dave Mirra was found dead after an evening spent visiting some friends in the area in Greenville, North Carolina. The Greenville Police Department reports that he was found with what appeared to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

The American BMX star made an impact in both his sport and the world of video games. He lent his name to several Freestyle BMX games on multiple platforms - the last Dave Mirra title was Dave Mirra BMX Challenge released on Wii and PSP in 2007, and after he started with rally he appeared in Codemasters' Dirt and Dirt 2.

"At approximately 4pm today, Greenville Police responded to the 200 block of Pinewood Road for an apparent suicide. Upon arrival, officers discovered Dave Mirra, 41, of Greenville, sitting in a truck with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He had been visiting friends in the area a short time before the incident," Greenville PD writes on Facebook.
