The "Next" Gen.

We love a good console war. Or rather, the internet loves a good rage war in general and the battle between the next gen consoles has provided us with perfect fodder. It always has. "Genesis does what Nintendon't" right?

Well, maybe not. I'm getting tired of the wars. Or maybe I'm just feeling disillusioned. I've never been a fanboy for any particular console. I have a PS3 and a Wii. If Xbox 360 offered a huge difference in game library to both of them, I'd probably have it too, but I see no point in it as it stands now. All games get ported to most consoles either way. And now that Wii U has come out, the lines are blurring even more as games that the Wii previously couldn't run are now coming out for its cousin. Seriously, I never thought I'd see a Batman Arkham game on a Nintendo console, but there it was. So who cares at this point?

Well, the internet does. Xbox One has received a lot of hate and I'm tempted to jump on the bandwagon here and start hating on all the silly and unnecessary features, but that's not my issue with this.

Before I delve into it though, a quick sidenote. Have you heard that Sony's stock is rising after the Xbox One reveal? Wait, this is the internet, of course you have... Don't you think we should wait until Sony actually reveal their PS4 before abandoning ship and going with them? I know the Xbox One reveal was a flop with poor information coming from left and right, but that doesn't mean that Sony won't come out with some horrible features of their own.

But to get to my main point: what the hell are Sony and Microsoft doing? There's this talk of next gen, right, but I gotta say, I'm not feeling this. Do we need the next gen now? Look, I see what this is. The Xbox One looks so unappealing because it seems to have been rushed through development and we haven't even SEEN the PS4 yet. I think these two are worried about Nintendo coming in and taking us all by storm with their Wii U.

Problem is? That's not happening. The Wii U isn't a flop, no, but what it has essentially done is catch up to the current generation. Ubisoft's bailing on it by releasing Rayman Legends on other consoles and EA can't agree on a partnership with Nintendo. This is how we enter the New Gen? Nintendo comes out with a "meh" console and everybody else flips out and rushes through development just to have their own console on the market?

To be fair, maybe it's not all bad. For years I've been hearing about how horrible the PS3 is to program for. As someone who owns one, it's sometimes been a source of annoyance for me (if you ever pried to play the unpatched Bayonetta, you'll know what I'm talking about). If they fix that problem and make the PS4 easier to develop games for, well, maybe it's worth the price of admission. Assuming that we actually get some good games! Seriously, Sony, my PSVita could use something to sink its teeth into. I didn't buy it to play PSP games!

Right now, I don't see the point of getting any of the "next gen" consoles, but we've barely gotten a good look at the PS4. Xbox One hasn't gotten all of its features under the spotlight yet either (although the ones I've seen so far make me very skeptical). But as the internet has pointed out to me, no matter how this goes, out of all consoles there'll always be "One 4 U"

Hmm... did the internet really just make a joke about diversity and personal preference without insulting anyone's mother? Maybe I'm not the only one tired of these wars...
