BlizzCon is set to start up this weekend and with it comes a host of esports activities, including tournaments happening in many of Blizzard's major games. Arguably the standout tournament is the Overwatch World Cup, which is the first major Overwatch tournament hosted by Blizzard.

Blizzard have taken steps this year to ensure press are better able to cover the esports events, by announcing that winning teams and players will be made available after every match, and will be available for interviews in a press conference style. Blizzard are the first company to make such a move, which has been welcomed by the press and community. The other major companies who host esports tournaments, like Riot Games or Valve, have never mandated that players and coaches be available to the press for interviews or talks in any organised format.

This move from Blizzard has made it so fans can get access to interviews and talks in a much more coherent fashion, since many different press sources will be at the event and getting interviews. Press conferences hosted by mainstream sports organisers like the NBA ensure that the events are covered widely and thus gives fans access to more.

This move from Blizzard has made sure that the esports industry can mature well, and we only hope that other hosts will follow suit sooner rather than later. Do you appreciate the move?
