Billy Mitchell stripped of records and banned from competition

Old tape evidence deemed to have been recorded through emulated software.

Billy Mitchell, who is famous for holding several arcade video game world records, and for also being quite the villain in the documentary King of Kong, has been stripped of his accolades and banned from participating in upcoming Twin Galaxies events in the future, as well as to appear on their leaderboards.

An official dispute to Mitchell's records were filed back in August 2017, suggested that several of his records were made using emulated software, not the original arcade cabinets, as mandated by the rules.

Now, after a long investigation, Twin Galaxies has made a statement, that reveals that Mitchell's records have been expunged.

Finally, it seems that it's now Steve Wiebe that's the first person to ever get one million points in Donkey Kong.

"With this ruling Twin Galaxies can no longer recognize Billy Mitchell as the 1st million point Donkey Kong record holder. According to our findings, Steve Wiebe would be the official 1st million point record holder."

Maybe, King of King now needs a new ending... and it is as always worth noting that following King of Kong several very skilled players appeared on the Donkey Kong stage taking the record to new highs in the following years. The current record stands at 1,247,700 and was achieved by Robbie Lakeman last month.
