Today Pete Hines, VP of PR and marketing at Bethesda, tweeted that Todd Howard, director and executive producer at Bethesda, had told Geoff Keighley some important information. Firstly, that the studio had two major projects in the works and, secondly, that a potential sixth Elder Scrolls game would come after these were finished. For those hoping for The Elder Scrolls VI, the news will come as a disappointment.

Although neither man reveals nor confirms what the two mysterious projects are, this does seem to indicate that Elder Scrolls VI is in their thoughts, maybe even in early development, even if it is planned to land at some point in the distant future.

Meanwhile, fans are left to speculate on what these major projects could be, given that a Fallout game has just been released last year.

Update

Something that has just come to our attention during a late night trawl of the internet, that we thought we should add to this story, is the news that a sixth Elder Scrolls game is definitely in the works.

While Todd Howard confirmed what was written above, that there's two major games coming before it, another fantasy RPG is in development at the studio. Here's what Howard had to say:

"That's kind of like the elephant in the room, always, when we talk about anything, and I think it's good to tell our fans in these moments, yes, of course we are [making Elder Scrolls 6]. It's something we love. But it is—I have to be careful what I say—it's a very long way off. I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, 'That sounds like you don't even have the technology—how long is that going to take?' And so it's something that's going to take a lot of time, what we have in mind for that game."
