Bees are a hot talking point in this day and age, what with their importance to our environment, and we talked with Varsav Game Studios' founder and CEO Łukasz Rosiński about the interesting game Bee Simulator at Gamescom, which is balancing the entertainment aspect with educational materials on the creatures.
"I think that definitely it shows a very interesting perspective, because not many people know much about bees," he said. "We know that they are flying and that they are doing honey, that's it, but they are like... there's a hierarchy in the hive; they are fighting; they've got natural enemies like wasps and hornets; they dance to communicate with each other."
"So all of those things that we knew after reading books about bees, and after cooperating with beekeepers - they helped us balance the game between having fun, so action game, but still having the element from the real life of bees, so like the educational part and the simulation part also that is still in the game - and this is now something that, when you finish the game, you will definitely know much more about bees, and you will definitely like them much more than you will normally like bees."
Rosiński also talks in the interview below about the origins of the idea, which came from him reading a children's book and seeing all the things that bees can do.
Speaking of the entertainment side of the game, you can actually play Bee Simulator in co-op, as evident from the recent trailer at Gamescom, showing how you can cooperate together.
