At Gamescom 2016 we talked to Forza Horizon 3's Creative Director Ralph Fulton about the barn finds in the game and what fans can expect from that.
"I'm really keen not to give away too much about them", Fulton said, "because I think for a lot of players the fun of finding that barn, opening up and seeing what's inside is kind of a big thrill and I don't want to sell that out by talking about it too much beforehand".
"What I will say is that we have half as many barn finds, again, as we did in Forza Horizon 2, so there's 15 barn finds [as opposed to 10 in Horizon 2] in the game for you to find. Because our world is so big, and it's also so beautifully rendered and great detail, I'm actually finding the barns harder to find this time".
He also gave a useful tip for players trying to find these barn finds. "We have this new mode you can unlock called drone mode which basically allows you to get out of your car and pilot [a drone] around the world. And wherever you go, wherever you look at with the drone, will get unlocked on your map, so it's a great way to cover a lot of distance quickly".
He also added "I guess a lot of people don't realise - for each of these barn finds, for each of the cars that you'll find there, back at the studio our designers have a little story behind how that car got there. It's not just randomly picked, there's always a little bit of narrative and it might not be obvious but it's important to us that there's a backstory to how that car managed to get in that barn and hopefully you'll see that this time because we've tried to dress the inside of the barns there so when that door goes up hopefully you'll see a little mini story there that I hope our players will get a real kick out of".
Forza Horizon 3 is out on September 27 for Xbox One and PC.
