Asterix and Obelix XXL 3 has "convenient" co-op system

The iconic heroes Asterix and Obelix are soon to be returning in XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir, and at Gamescom we spoke with brand manager Vincent Behaghel about the upcoming sequel, which is a "brand new title with a very new story".

"In Asterix and Obelix XXL 3, there is still a lot of fighting, that has always been the case in the XXL franchise, so we keep the balance, a lot of balance. Asterix and Obelix - and the Menhir - are very skilled, very powerful, but there is also some nice other moments when you can just explore the game, the surrounding areas to find some collectibles or to know more about some characters," he said.

We'll also be seeing "new characters just made for the game, and they have very funny names," but perhaps the core appeal is the co-op, as Behaghel explained:

"So it's an action-adventure game based in the Asterix universe, and for the first time in the XXL series you can play Asterix and Obelix at the same time in co-op mode. So it's a pretty convenient drop-in, drop-out system [...] Asterix and Obelix have to help each other in fights, but also to find their way out in levels."
