Animal Crossing is currently enjoying life on mobile devices via Pocket Camp, but Switch players can get in on New Horizons on March 20 next year, and now we've received some more footage of the latest entry in the series courtesy of the Nintendo Direct stream last night.

Of course this features everyone's favourite character (or maybe not) Tom Nook, who tells us about his Deserted Island Getaway Package, taking us to sunny beaches, verdant forests, and lands packed with cute friends to chat with.

You'll get a tent as part of this journey, as well as a NookPhone, so it's not exactly back to basics on this island. Here you can find a camera, as well as recipes for crafting tools and furniture. We're then shown our character collecting branches and stones for a rudimentary axe, using a workbench to make it. Similar to something like Minecraft, better tools allow access to more resources, which mean more items to craft, and so on, although you can also buy tools and furniture from Nook's business, as well as selling your unwanted stuff.

Bells are the currency you'd expect to earn, but there are also Nook Miles as well, as part of the Nook Mileage Program. You can exchange these for special recipes and items, earning them through various activities.

As for what these activities are, you can go fishing, catch bugs, care for flowers, and pick them too. Even weeds are useful, and you can craft a vaulting pole to cross rivers quicker if you're in a rush.

Scenery changes with the weather and the time, so it won't always be beautiful sunshine, and this affects the types of creature you can catch as well.

Up to four players at a time can play on one system as well, and using a local wireless or internet connection means you can even travel to another player's island, with eight players able to be in one trip.

Has this gotten you more excited for the upcoming game?
